Gugu Zulu

Hello and Welcome.

Let me start by breaking down my name for you. I go by the name Gugu Zulu. The name Gugu describes something special, a gem and Zulu is not only the most powerful royal tribe in South Africa but it also means heaven. So loosely translated my name means Special Heaven, with my music I hope to make your event feel like your very own "special heaven" on earth.

I am a Hamburg based singer and song writer from South Africa.
You could definitely call me a jack of all trades because I am able to switch from one genre to another with ease. My love for music and professionalism help me achieve this of course. My musical influences are very vast as I have had the honour to work with so many different artists. Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Pj Powers and currently working for the critically acclaimed musical Der König Der Löwen. I was also a member of The Nameless Band, a South African band that had a number one hit single called Masiyeke. I also love to challenge myself by joining singing competitions. Clash of The Choirs season1 which my choir won and Idols SA season 13, there i made it to top 16.

I graduated from The University of KwaZulu-Natal with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Thereafter started working on tv series, musical theater and a musical film called She Is King.

Der König der Löwen

For as long as I can remember music has always been a major part of my life. Whether it's singing at all the award ceremonies at school or every sunday at church. Singing was something nobody had to ask me twice to do.

I'd write songs and perform them for my family forcing them to sit down and enjoy my little show I would put on for them. The love grew even as an adult. I started performing at bigger award ceremonies in South Africa as backup singer for many artists. Namely the Metrofm Awards and The Gospel Crown Awards. It was a dream! I then ventured into becoming an artist myself and released a single called Bambelela which was massive on radios in 2015-2017. Followed by tv series and theater productions, where I would write the music and also be on stage performing it. My most favourite work was the music I wrote for She is King a musical film I starred in. It is all still available for downloads.
